Liquorice Liquorice

Botanical Namel: Glycymhiza glabra

Liquorice or Mulethi is a tall, erect herb, growing upto about 1.5 metres in height. The dried roots and underground stems or rhizomes of the plant constitute the drug. The root of the plant is a laxative and expectorant. When externally used it has a soothing effect on the skin. Powdered liquorice is very popular in allopathic medicine.

Significance:

Liquorice is an excellent remedy for relieving pain, discomfort and other symptoms caused by acrid matter in the stomach. The herb is a recognized home remedy for sore throat, dry cough, myopia, constipation, stomach ulcer, muscular pains, baldness, wounds and healing corns. (learn more... )

Costus is a tall, robust perennial Herb; leaves simple, large pubescent, heart shaped radical leaves with long petiole while cauline leaves are short stalk or half stem clasping. The roots have a pungent taste and a characteristic fragrant aromatic odour.

Costus is commonly used as a medicinal herb mainly for its tonic, stimulant and antiseptic properties and has been traditionally used to promote Qi circulation. Rock Salt
Rock Salt is a large crystal salt, slightly grayish in color. Unlike table salt which usually contains iodine, rock salt is very coarse, often includes an additive to prevent clumping. It is the only rock consumed by people. Rock salt has a few culinary uses such as to bake potatoes or to encrust or embed meat, seafood or poultry for baking. When rock salt is applied to ice, it lowers the freezing point of water and hence partially melt the ice and form a brine solution.
